The Breakdown’s inaugural Big 12 Classic showcases a dozen top boys’ high school basketball teams

The Breakdown introduces its newest in-season basketball event,
featuring a dozen top ranked boys’ basketball programs on
Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 at Cretin-Derham Hall High School

CLEAR LAKE, Minn. (Nov. 24, 2018) – BREAKDOWN SPORTS USA is already known for bringing Minnesota high school basketball fans the best in-season events in the state, and our newest event is sure to add to that legacy. The BREAKDOWN is bringing together 12 top boys’ basketball teams for the inaugural BIG 12 CLASSIC, a one-day showcase at Cretin-Derham Hall High School on Saturday, December 1, 2018. The event consists of six games at one of the Twin Cities’ finest high school basketball venues.

Our inaugural event features teams currently ranked among the top-15 preseason in their respective classes, including the No. 1 team in Class AAAA (East Ridge) in a highlight battle against No. 3AAAA Hopkins in what could be a preview of the state championship game in March. East Ridge is led by the Brown brothers (senior Courtney and sophomore Kendall) and junior Ben Carlson, three of the top ranked players in their class in the state, while Hopkins is anchored by big Zeke Nnaji and other possible D1 talent.

We also feature two other No. 1 teams, with the top-ranked team in Class AAA (DeLaSalle) facing No. 2AAAA Eden Prairie and the No. 1 team in Class AA (Minnehaha Academy) squaring off with No. 5AA Perham. Eden Prairie has one of the best junior classes in the state in Austin Andrews, Connor Christensen, Drake Dobbs, and John Henry, while DeLaSalle has potential Mr. Basketball candidates in Tyrell Terry and Jamison Battle. Minnehaha Academy is young, but already a two-time defending state champion returning ace point guard Jalen Suggs and company, and Perham is a tough, senior-led group with Jenson Beachy in charge.

Other ranked matchups include No. 4AAAA Lakeville North with Wisconsin-bound Tyler Wahl against No. 12AAAA Edina and seniors Jack Middleton and Zach Kloos, No. 6AAAA Prior Lake with the twin towers of Dawson Garcia and Robert Jones versus an extremely deep No. 7AAAA Park Center led by Dain Dainja and Khari Broadway, and defending state champion No. 10 AAAA Cretin-Derham Hall with Jaeden King joined by transfers Karsten Broadley, Curtis Jones and Tre Holloman versus No. 5AAAA Wayzata and super senior point guard Jacob Beeninga. All 12 teams playing Saturday are ranked in our preseason top-15 polls for what is sure to make for an exciting day of basketball.

The full schedule of games is below.
• 11:00 a.m. — No. 4AAAA Lakeville North vs. No. 12AAAA Edina

The BIG 12 CLASSIC is the newest of the BREAKDOWN’s special annual basketball events! In early December every year, we're planning to bring the top teams from across the state to Cretin-Derham Hall High School for a day of basketball.
