When all is not perfect what can you do?

Strive for perfection, or at least improvement toward that end.

It was a great day for the Raiders at the Rum River Invite at Anoka HS.  The meet began with cloudy skies, ready to burst.  It was just a matter of time before the rain started to fall in the Girls' Varsity 5k, but the adverse conditions did not seem to bother the Raiders.  Each Varsity girl ran a career best in the race, highlighted by Althea Gutzmann running 20:06 to place 7th and Molly Roberge running 22:57 to place 72nd and shave over 45 seconds off her personal best. As a team, the Girls' Varsity improved by over 125 places from the previous year to place 12th out of 16 teams, while also cutting over 15min from their previous cumulative time at the meet.

Rain continued to fall during the Boys' Varsity 5k and the partial squad, who were missing two of their top five runners, still proved to be tenacious.  The team ran a gritty race with Dillon Diekmann leading the charge to place 6th in a personal best of 16:35.  The personal bests kept rolling in as Jack Spencer broke the 18min barrier for the first time to place 35th in 17:44 and the rest of the Varsity squad all ran significant PRs.  The Varsity Boys placed 14th of 19 teams with much room for improvement with the full squad.

The Junior Varsity 5k races fired off next with the boys beginning and the girls going 4 four minutes later to keep the meet going, as the rain was in full force at the time.  Owen Keely and Lucy Grumbles stood out on each side as they both ran personal bests by over a minute.  Overall, this meet was a gold rush of season bests for the Raiders as every athlete ran at least a season best, with many running career bests.

The Raiders will look to continue their improvement trend as the Varsity will face tough competition at the Roy Griak Invitational this Saturday at the Les Bolstad Golf Course and the Junior Varsity will compete at the Mustang Invite on Friday.
