It was a rainy but cool day at Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis as the Raiders competed in the Islander Invite hosted by Academy of Holy Angels. The 3000m course was fairly hilly and winding as it wrapped around Powderhorn Lake. The Junior Varsity boys started the day off on a positive note for the Raiders with Hunter Hansen and Seamus Foley leading the charge, finishing 25th and 21st, respectively. On the JV girls side, Ana Morton stormed out to a furious pace and finished 20th overall.
In their first official meet of the year, the Varsity boys brought home a 4th place finish out of the 14 teams competing. Dillon Diekmann ran a quick tempo throughout the race finishing in 9:59 for 4th place overall. Matt Voigt, Jack Spencer, and Elias Brotman ran as a close pack and helped the Raiders secure a solid team score.
The Varsity girls ran tough with front runner Althea Gutzmann running an impressive race in 11:52 to finish in 7th place. The team was anchored by a tight pack of 4 runners lead by Molly Roberge, who all finished within 15 seconds of each other, helping the Raiders finish 7th out of 11 teams.
Here are a few statistics showing how the Raiders Cross Country team improved from the Alumni (8/19) to the Islander Invite on (8/27):
-Raiders ran on average, 36 seconds/mile FASTER at the Islander Invite!!
-Zane Jhocson was the MOST IMPROVED as he ran 100sec/mile faster at the Islander!
-Two Raiders, Dillon Diekmann (4th) and Althea Gutzmann (7th) placed TOP 10 in the Varsity races!
