Track and Field Hitting the Stretch Run

Both the Boys and Girls Track and Field teams have had astounding performances both as a group and by individuals this season. Track and Field is led by Head Coach Chris Babcok and Assistant Coaches Kevin Mencke, Garrett Prentis, Journey Amumdson, Tony DeRocha and Mark Stoick. The team has members competing in a variety of events allowing athletes to find where their strengths are. 

Three student-athletes cemented their name into greatness as Michael Seifu ‘25, Keyon Archer ‘25, and Grace McSherry ‘25 made their way into the All Time Honor Roll of Freshman and Sophomore bests. Archer recorded a 39’ 6.5’’ Triple Jump and Seifu finished the 110 meter high hurdles in 16.2 seconds. McSherry recorded a 31’ 6.75’ Triple Jump. 

The team is competing this week in the Suburban East Conference Prelims and Finals. Nearly 50 members are participating in over a combined 20 unique events.

Kenzie Steineman ‘26, Clare Lasure ‘25, Rebecca Gutzmann ‘24, and Dayna Lynch ‘23 compete in the 100m Hurdles while Seifu and Sean Robinson ‘23 compete in the 110m Hurdles. Seifu’s time of 16.2 seconds stands as the fastest in Heat 1. Ali Deldotto ‘25, Katie Farrington ‘25, Eliana Meyer ‘25, Lilia Hozza ‘25, Uriel Richmond ‘26, Alim Kamara ‘23, and Isaac Koemptgen ‘23 will represent the team in the 100 Meter sprint. Lily Hahs ‘24, Piper Lee ‘23, Emily Boss ‘25, Ava Yets ‘24, Garrett Poynter ‘25, Caleb Kukuroboman ‘26, Alex Atkinson ‘23, and Oscar Bailey ‘26 are competing in the 400 Meters sprint. Lee leads the girls team in the 400 Meters and placed first at a recent event in Woodbury. Jill Wohlever ‘26, Steineman, Gutzmann, Robinson, and Seifu compete in the 300 Meter Hurdles. Deldotto, Maia Bowman ‘25, JaDale Thompson ‘26, Stephen Flashing ‘23, and Mason Kuchenmeister ‘23 compete in the 200 Meters.

On the distance side, Katie Chestovich ‘24, Abby Chestovich ‘26, Fox Galioto ‘26, Will Ek ‘23, and Kade Shomion ‘26 will compete in the 800 Meters. Katie Chestovich finished first in the 800 Meters at the Eden Prairie Booster Invitational.  Lucy Keating ‘26, Stinson Wailing ‘26, and Ian Johnson ‘25 will take on the 3200 Meters.

Lilia Hozza ‘25, Lynch, and McSherry represent the team in the Girls Long Jump. McSherry placed first in the Long Jump and Triple Jump at the Tom Moore Invitational in Woodbury. Archer will compete in the Triple Jump looking to top his personal best. Meyer will compete in the Girls High Jump. Liam McLay ‘24 and Poynter will compete in the Pole Vault 

Grace Bartel ‘26 and Elisa Veglia ‘23 will toss the Discus while Marvin Rahm ‘26, Alec Warford ‘24, Isaac Nesset ‘24, and Patrick Domler ‘23 compete in Shot Put. 

The team has grown together both in meets and off the field. Alex Atkinson ‘23 said “I love the bus rides” when asked about some of his favorite parts of Track and Field because the group has fun and learns about each other. There is talent in all of the events and the team looks to have a solid performance in championship season. The team will begin competing in Relays on Thursday.
