Cretin Derham Hall has announced that Buzz Hannahan ’94 has been named the interim head coach of the Raider baseball team.

Hannahan has been an assistant coach for the Raiders for the past seven years. However, he is no stranger to the purple and gold, a 1994 graduate of CDH was a standout baseball player and was a member of a state championship team.

After graduating, Hannahan went on to play at the University of St. Thomas and then was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies where he spent 8 years in their organization.

Hannahan replaces Mike Kvasnicka who left for a coaching position at the University of Minnesota. “It’s an honor,” Hannahan said, “To carry on the tradition CDH has and the impact Raider baseball has on the community, to keep it going … It's a special thing.”

Assistant coaches Derek Weinke ’89 and Toby Anderson will return to Hannahan’s staff this season as well.

The Raiders and Hannahan have plenty to be optimistic about this season as three members of the this year’s varsity team have committed to play Division 1 baseball in the future Jack Taxdahl ’23 (University of Minnesota), Jake Quinn ’24 (University of Minnesota) and P.J Jones ’24 (University of Maryland).

One thing is certain, the future is very bright for Raider baseball.
