The Cross Country team has been busy beating personal records and having fun this fall. Led by Head Coach Chris Babcock in addition to Assistant Coaches Ed Day and Ashley Daniels, the team is steadily improving this year. The staff brings the ability to give inspiring speeches, teach running strategies, and push each runner further. Both the boys and girls groups are young, made up of mostly newcomers to the sport. The unexplored talent brings a bright spark for the future of the program as these athletes have years to develop their skills.

Although an individual’s performance is important to success, the team has grown a strong bond and the runners value the team’s overall achievements. Coach Babcock values members who give their best effort and have a positive attitude, no matter how much Cross Country experience they have. Coach Babcock is described as a great motivator, building each runner’s confidence.

Having confidence in themselves and support from their coaches helps boost a runner’s chances of beating their personal record each time they run the 5K. As an individual, runners score points and are always looking to improve their personal score times. Every team member challenges themselves to increase their ability, as what they individually bring to the table can lead the team to victory. The team’s favorite memories from this season include both surpassing their personal bests or passing opponents, but also the team rooting for fellow runners finishing the race. Every runner is cheering for their teammates to succeed, as every member has the ability to contribute to the result of the race.

The Raiders have two invitationals this weekend bringing teams from around the Midwest to compete. The team will be traveling to Les Bolstad Golf Course on Friday, and Anoka High School on Saturday. Good luck Raiders!

Cross Country is accessible to all grades and is a great opportunity for students looking to try something new! It requires no gear, just a positive attitude and mindset to succeed!
