The football team didn’t get the start it wanted to, falling this past Friday night on the road to defending state champion Chaska High School 58-7.

The Raiders look to rebound this week as they host Irondale for Homecoming on Friday night at the University of St.Thomas. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.

Head coach Chuck Miesbauer ’03 said his team went right to work during film on Saturday to figure out what needed to be fixed in terms of play execution and staying in the right state of mind.

The team’s leadership will be important in making sure every player keeps their heads up heading into their homecoming match-up with the Knights.

“I thought we prepped well last week, unfortunately we had some injuries that came up late in the week and left our depth very thin,” Miesbauer said. “Our senior class is doing a good job of keeping everybody focused and not letting anybody get their heads down, I heard a lot of that on Friday.”

“Chaska is a great football team,” he continued. “You have to be at full strength going into a match-up like this, that was not the case on Friday and unfortunately we did not get the result we were hoping for.”

Irondale (3-2 overall) is coming off a loss as well to Saint Thomas Academy 28-14. This should be a competitive game that could go either way.

The Raiders have a real opportunity to finish the season strong as they host Irondale and Two Rivers and then finish the regular season with a trip to Hastings. If CDH can win their final three games they would put themselves as a high seed in the Section 4AAAAA tournament. Mahtomedi is expected to be the top seed and defeated the Raiders 23-20 in week 2.

Good luck Raiders!
