Cross Country Making Big Strides

The Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country team has been training since the beginning of August and are fortunate enough to have access to the weight room this year along with a new strength coach (Ryan Bonikowske) to guide us along the way.

The team has been doing our classic running routes and workouts that have become a traditional staple of the program, which also includes teaching the younger runners the way things work so they can carry on. Even though our team is mainly filled with ninth- and tenth-graders, they have more than enough ambition and grit to enhance the team and make it grow in the coming years.

Our varsity boys’ team is currently filled by team captains Andy Chestovich ’22, Jack Mountain ’22, and Adam Sewich ’22. Although team numbers are small the Raiders still place high in races and have a good average race time. Chestovich leads the team with a 17:01 time in the 5k and placed 10th out of 75 in the most recent race at DeLaSalle on September 24. Mountain placed 20 out of 75 and Sewich placed 33 out of 75. Chestovich's chances of making it to the state tournament are bright if he places well at our sectional. In the meantime, the team is building up for the sectional race on October 27th at Highland Golf Course.

Our varsity girls’ team is led by Abby Chestovitch ’26 who is an 8th grader at Holy Spirit. She is one of the best runners on the team and she placed 7th overall in our most recent meet at DeLaSalle. Overall, the team has embraced the challenges that cross country brings and has grown because of it.
