Our faculty are dedicated to our students! Many of them don't only teach - they also coach or advise clubs as well.

To celebrate our coaches who also teach or are staff at CDH, we're sharing a Q&A with each of them over the next few months! Today, meet Jesse Cusick '98, who coaches both Boys and Girls Tennis and is an English teacher.

Did you participate in the sport you coach as a student-athlete?
No, I only played tennis at the youth level before high school, and then recreationally afterwards.

What made you decide to coach?
I love the sport of tennis and love being around high school kids.

How long have you been coaching here at CDH?
This was my second season as a JV girls tennis coach, and the first as a JV boys coach.

What do you love about coaching?
I love sharing the passion I have for high school athletics and the morals and lessons that come with coaching and competing in sports.

How does your experience as a coach improve your teaching?
It is nice to be able to relate and connect with students outside of a classroom doing something that I love.

How does your experience as a teacher improve your coaching?
Teaching helps me relate to and understand the teenage brain and mentality of high schoolers.

Do you have any favorite memories from your time coaching?  I have enjoyed the team bonding tennis trips down the Wisconsin side of the Mississippi River with Tim Spika and the varsity girls tennis teams.
