The St. Paul Downtown Lions Club Athlete of the Year award, presented annually since 1943, honors two high school senior students (one boy and one girl) for athletic excellence as well as recognition of strong academics and citizenship.

CDH nominated Chuck Altier '21 and Natalie Scott '21. Altier is a finalist for the award, along with five other boys from schools across St. Paul. Altier was a captain of both the hockey and lacrosse teams, as well as a manager of the football team. He is also on the President's list for academics as a senior, carrying a 3.92 or higher.

"Chuck is the ultimate captain," said Hockey coach Matt Funk. "On the rink, he leads by example, voices the concerns of all his teammates, and remains positive in all situations. Chuck came into the hockey season with something to prove on the ice and he has delivered over and over again. Off the ice, he has united a locker room in a pandemic, has gone out of his way to make sure everyone has felt welcomed and has provided me and the coaching staff with the feedback needed to keep pushing forward. Chuck is a relentless player and even more relentless friend. He cares about everyone on this team and he lets them know in his own authentic way. I am extremely proud to be Chuck’s coach and friend."

Congratulations Chuck!
