Bob Sweeney ’77 (Honorary Raider Award) - Bob Sweeney has contributed a lifetime of support and service to CDH and Raider Athletics, including attending thousands of games and serving as the PA announcer for countless baseball, basketball and volleyball games. Bob has also served as an assistant coach to many of the great Raider coaches as well as coaching youth sports and also serving as an official and umpire in many youth sports.
Erin Sobaski ’81 - Erin was a three sport athlete at Derham Hall participating in cross country, gymnastics and track and field.earning a total of 12 varsity letters as well as setting several records in track and field. Upon graduation from Derham Hall, Erin enrolled at the College of St. Thomas where she excelled in track and field. Erin was a six-time All-American at St. Thomas while competing in three NCAA national meets. Erin was inducted into the University of St. Thomas Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995. Erin passed away on June 6, 2016.
Chris Weinke ’90 - Chris was a standout athlete in football, hockey and baseball for the Raiders. Chris was named First Team All-American Quarterback by Parade Magazine in 1989 as well as the Minnesota Gatorade Player of the year. He was also a key member of the CDH baseball teams that won consecutive state championships in 1989 and 1990. Upon graduating from CDH, Chris was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays and spent six seasons in the Blue Jays system before deciding to return to football. Chris enrolled at Florida State University, Chris led the Seminoles to an undefeated season and national championship in 1999. The following season Chris won several awards including the Heisman Trophy. Following graduation from Florida State, Chris then played seven seasons in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers.
Jenny Haigh ’91 - Jenny was a three sport athlete who earned eleven varsity letters while competing in soccer, basketball and softball. She was named to the All-State Soccer team three times and led the state in scoring her junior year. Upon graduating from CDH, Jenny enrolled at the University of Wisconsin where she was a soccer scholarship athlete. While at UW, Jenny was named team captain and was an Academic All-American while leading the Badgers to the NCAA Sweet 16 four times and the NCAA Final Four twice. Jenny then went on to play professionally in Sweden before moving into coaching college soccer. Jenny coached at Arizona State and Missouri before becoming the head coach at Northwestern University for six seasons. Jenny passed away on April 15, 2018.
Matt Birk ’94 - Matt was a three sport athlete at CDH participating in football, basketball and track and field. Matt was named to the St. Paul City All-Conference team and the Minnesota All-State teams in his junior and senior seasons and was named Academic All-State in 1993. Matt was also a member of the 1993 Raiders State Championship basketball team in 1993. Upon graduation from CDH, Matt enrolled at Harvard University where he excelled for the Crimson football team earning All-Ivy League and Division1-AA All-American honors. Matt was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings where he played eleven seasons earning six Pro Bowl selections. Matt then finished his career with the Baltimore Ravens where he was named the Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2011 and was a Super Bowl champion in 2012.
Kate Townley ’00 - Kate was a three sport athlete at CDH, competing in soccer, basketball and softball where she earned All-State honors in all three sports. Kate was named MVP three times and team captain twice for the Raiders basketball team while leading the team to the State Championship in 1999. Upon graduation from CDH, Kate enrolled at Binghamton University as a basketball scholarship athlete. While playing for the Bearcats she led the America East conference in assists for three seasons. In 2004 following her senior season, Kate was the recipient of the award recognizing a graduating senior female who exemplifies outstanding athletic and academic achievement as well as service to the community.
Joe Mauer ’01 - Joe was a standout three sport athlete participating in football, basketball and baseball. Joe was named to the Minnesota All-State team in all three sports and was recognized as the Gatorade national Player of the year in football and baseball. In two years as the starting quarterback he threw for 5,528 yards and 73 touchdowns while leading CDH to consecutive state championship games winning the title in 1999. Joe was also a standout baseball player who led the Raiders to the 2001 State Championship and had the distinct honor of only striking out once in four years of high school baseball. Upon graduation, Joe was selected first overall in the MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins where he would play his entire 15 year professional career. Joe was named American League MVP in 2009 as well as being a six time All-Star and three-time batting champion. In 2024 Joe was a first ballot selection to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.
Alyssa Karel Ylinen ’07 - Alyssa was a three sport standout athlete participating in soccer, basketball and softball earning ten varsity letters. In basketball, Alyssa was a four time team MVP and All-Conference player while earning three All-State honors. In 2007 Alyssa was the recipient of the Athena Award and the St. Paul Pioneer Press Defensive Player of the Year. Upon graduating from CDH, Alyssa enrolled at the University of Wisconsin as a basketball scholarship athlete. At UW she led the Badgers in scoring three years and was named MVP of the Big Ten Tournament twice. She was also an All-Big Ten Player as well as Academic All-Big Ten. Alyssa played professionally in Europe for two seasons.
Bill Walsh ’57 - Bill was a three sport standout athlete participating in football, hockey and baseball earning twelve varsity letters as well as being a member of both the 1957 football and hockey state championship teams.
