The Minnesota Tennis Coaches Association announced the recipients of the 2017 Academic All-State awards. Cretin-Derham Hall was proud to be the recipient of seven honors: a team honor and six individual honors.

Team Academic All-State

Cretin-Derham Hall was named to the Class AA Gold Award Team which requires the team to have a GPA of 3.75 or higher.

Individual Academic All-State

Seniors Adriana Houge'18, Anna Klein'18, Claire McMahon'18, Grace Altier'18, Jordan Sundt'18, and Madeline Marzolf'18 also received Academic All-State awards.

Head coach Tim Spika explains that Academic All-State for tennis is for seniors only. It's based on a non-weighted cumulative GPA from grades 9-11 of 3.75 or higher. 

"Most of our players take Honors or AP classes, but their 'A' doesn't count for more than an 'A' in any other class. Many of our players study on the bus to and from matches or even after their individual match is completed, as they are watching and supporting their teammates,"  noted Spika.   

"Our team also received the Gold Academic Award, which is based on a cumulative team GPA of 3.75 or higher.  This is the fifth year in a row that we've earned that honor. Our players really do embody the term "student-athlete." They are students first, while also being excellent athletes."
